The light up ceremony officially begins the month long, 2013 Island of Lights Festival. The brief opening ceremony will feature the President of The Island of Lights committee, Pleasure Island elected officials, and musical entertainment. Local Cub Scouts provide the Honor Guard and display the Flag for the singing of the National Anthem. Families can walk one mile around the lake to view the beautiful lighted displays. Gallop for the Gravy is Wilmington West Rotary's Annual 5K run benefiting local and Rotary International charities. The certified 5k course starts and ends at the Wilmington Family YMCA. It winds through the Forest Hills neighborhood, has plenty of shade and is flat. There is one water stop at about the 1/2 point. Costumes are encouraged and rewarded with a prize for the best. Turkey Trot 4 Mile Trail Run

The Turkey Trot is a 4 mile trail run / walk through Carolina Beach State Park. The race begins at Carolina Beach State Park Marina. Runners will proceed on paved road and then enter well marked trails through pine forest and over wooden footbridges. Footing is generally good with occasional sand, roots and limb hazards along the trail. There will be a continuous shuttle service from race finish to breakfast / awards ceremony and from the awards back to the parking area. Register today!

The 30th Annual Flotilla weekend will be held Friday and Saturday, November 29th and 30th. The 15th annual Carolina Sports Medicine Battleship North Carolina Half Marathon and Port Land Grille Battleship 5K is the best undiscovered Destination Race you'll ever do! Fall Horse Drawn Wagon Tours of Oakdale Cemetery

Enjoy a 30 minute, narrated tour of Oakdale - North Carolina's oldest rural cemetery. Nip and Tuck, a pair of Percheron horses who pull the wagon, will allow Ed Lewis of Currie Work and Driving Horse Farm to provide directions. JAKE SHIMABUKURO is a ukulele virtuoso and composer known for his fast and complex finger work. His music combines elements of jazz, blues, funk, rock, bluegrass, classical, folk, and flamenco. Shimabukuro has written numerous original compositions, including the entire soundtracks to two Japanese films, Hula Girls (2007) and the Japanese remake of Sideways (2009). Well known in Hawaii and Japan during his early solo career in the early 2000s, Shimabukuro became famous internationally in 2006, when a video of him playing a virtuosic rendition of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" was posted on YouTube without his knowledge and became one of the first viral videos on that site. Cars and motorcycles dating 1980 and older line the streets of the historic downtown area, with the Cape Fear River and the diverse collection of retail stores as their backdrop. 14th Annual Cape Fear Community College Boat Show
