Gallop For The Gravy 5K
November 28, 2013
Gallop for the Gravy is Wilmington West Rotary's Annual 5K run benefiting local and Rotary International charities. The certified 5k course starts and ends at the Wilmington Family YMCA. It winds through the Forest Hills neighborhood, has plenty of shade and is flat. There is one water stop at about the 1/2 point. Costumes are encouraged and rewarded with a prize for the best. Island of Lights - Lighting at the Lake Celebration
November 29, 2013 
The light up ceremony officially begins the month long Island of Lights Festival! There will be a brief opening ceremony featuring the President of The Island of Lights Committee, Pleasure Island elected officials and musical entertainment. Local Cub Scouts provide the Honor Guard and display the Flag for the singing of the National Anthem. Families can walk one mile around the lake to view the beautiful lighted displays and Santa will visit the celebration! Free coca and cookies will be served prior to Light Up. Turkey Trot 4 Mile Trail Run
November 30, 2013 at 9AM
The Turkey Trot is a 4 mile trail run / walk through Carolina Beach State Park. The race begins at Carolina Beach State Park Marina. Runners will proceed on paved road and then enter well marked trails through pine forest and over wooden footbridges. Footing is generally good with occasional sand, roots and limb hazards along the trail. There will be a continuous shuttle service from race finish to breakfast / awards ceremony and from the awards back to the parking area. Register today!

Wrightsville Beach Holiday Flotilla
November 29 & 30, 2013
The 30th Annual Flotilla weekend will be held Friday and Saturday, November 29th and 30th. Flotilla has grown to become one of the top 20 events in the Southeast and a must see family weekend, attracting an estimated 50,000 people to Wrightsville Beach annually. The weekend kicks off with a Launch Party and continues with a family friendly Festival in the Park, a spectacular lighted boat parade and an incredible fireworks display! Flat Bottom Girls Flounder Tournament

Fish For Tomorrow presents the Flat Bottom Girls Flounder Tournament this November 2013. Proceeds will benefit flounder aquaculture research at NC Wilmington and NC State University. 16th Annual Polish Festival

Cape Fear Kite Festival
November 2 & 3, 2013
Cape Fear Kite Festival was organized as a "fun fly" without competitions or rules (other than safety!) to unofficially wrap up the kite-flying year. It is attended by serious kite flyers who enjoy showing their sky art to anyone who appreciates it. While weather and wind dependent, SOMETHING will fly, we assure you! Hundreds of spectators of all ages and all walks of life cover the beach and many (we hope) will get hooked on the fun and beauty of a kite string in your hand and color against the clouds. Battleship Half Marathon and Port Land Grille Battleship 5k

The 15th annual Carolina Sports Medicine Battleship North Carolina Half Marathon and Port Land Grille Battleship 5K is the best undiscovered Destination Race you'll ever do! The race includes a beautiful, USATF-certified (NC13063DF) Half Marathon and precisely measured 5K that starts and finishes at the Battleship North Carolina across the river from downtown Wilmington, NC. It's only 9 miles to Wrightsville Beach which is one of the most picturesque beaches on the east coast. The Half Marathon course crosses 2 bridges, goes through historic downtown Wilmington, and tours beautiful Greenfield Lake with the 12-mile mark at the top of the Memorial Bridge which is the highest point on the course. The post-race party and awards ceremony in Battleship Park overlooks the Cape Fear River and downtown Wilmington with exhibits, vendors, pizza and good chow and drinks. Register today!

Diamonds & Champagne Hope Ball

Women of Hope is pleased to announce the Inaugural Diamonds & Champagne Hope Ball. A Charity Gala Event to be held on Friday, November 8, 2013 at the Brooklyn Arts Center in downtown Wilmington, NC. This formal black tie affair will benefit Women of Hope, which is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for the female cancer patient, survivor and their families. Entertainment for the evening will be provided by the Craig Woolard Band. A dinner buffet served by the MOI Catering Co. along with a variety of complimentary beverages to include beer and wine. 15th Annual Festival Latino

The 2013 Festival Latino will take place at Ogden Park in Wilmington, North Carolina. This is the largest Latino event in the Capfe Fear Area with over 20,000 people in attendance! Fall Horse Drawn Wagon Tours of Oakdale Cemetery
November 10, 2013 from 2:30PM - 4:30PM
Enjoy a 30 minute, narrated tour of Oakdale - North Carolina's oldest rural cemetery. Nip and Tuck, a pair of Percheron horses who pull the wagon, will allow Ed Lewis of Currie Work and Driving Horse Farm to provide directions. See the graves of Wilmington's famous and interesting personalities. Narrated tours are offered every 30 minutes beginning at 2:30 PM. The last tour will depart at 4:30 PM. Cucalorus brings people together to celebrate, discover and create independent films. The annual festival provides a non-competitive environment to honor and support filmmakers. The world's biggest celebration of independent and international film held in North Carolina! Jake Shimabukuro - Hawaiian Ukulele Wizard

JAKE SHIMABUKURO is a ukulele virtuoso and composer known for his fast and complex finger work. His music combines elements of jazz, blues, funk, rock, bluegrass, classical, folk, and flamenco. Shimabukuro has written numerous original compositions, including the entire soundtracks to two Japanese films, Hula Girls (2007) and the Japanese remake of Sideways (2009). Well known in Hawaii and Japan during his early solo career in the early 2000s, Shimabukuro became famous internationally in 2006, when a video of him playing a virtuosic rendition of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" was posted on YouTube without his knowledge and became one of the first viral videos on that site.
